Why does VAT ID validation matter in SAP?
Intra-Community supplies and services are exempt from domestic VAT only if the recipient’s VAT ID is valid. Regular checks reduce tax-audit risk and liability for incorrectly issued invoices.
Which authorities does the check use?
Checks run directly via official tax authorities: Germany’s Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt), Austria’s Ministry of Finance via FinanzOnline, and the European Commission via VIES — for businesses in all EU countries, optionally with secondary checks.
Can XVAT run on SAP ECC and S/4HANA?
Yes. XVAT runs from ERP 6.0 and is S/4HANA-compatible. The solution is SAP-certified and available in the /XAPTION/ namespace.
Where in SAP processes does the check run?
In customer, vendor and business-partner master data as well as sales, delivery, billing and FI — plus mass checks and a check log.
What happens if an authority service is unavailable?
Check requests are stored on the hold list and can be reprocessed later via the mass-check program.
Can I control warnings versus hard stops?
Yes. Control parameters and integration scenarios let you decide whether to warn only, set a delivery block or stop billing.
Are there country-specific extensions?
Yes. Optional country add-ons extend the check, e.g. REGON (Poland), SIRENE (France), ANAF (Romania) and ARES (Czechia).
Is there a Fiori integration for business partners?
Yes. The optional XVAT-Fiori extension embeds VAT ID validation in the SAP Fiori app for business partner management — including a check dialog directly in the launchpad.
